Huge opposition
THE Scottish Executive received almost 11,400 representations against Lewis Wind Power's application for their proposed development in Lewis....with less than 60 in support.
The figures are revealed in a parliamentary answer to Shona Baird, MSP for North East Scotland, representing the Green Party.
She asked the Executive how many representations it had received in respect of the Lewis wind farm during the formal consultation period and in total.
Replied Allan Wilson, Deputy Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning: "In additon to the Lewis Wind Power application, there were two addenda submitted by the developer. These attracted 10,234 representations in total, up to the last consultation date of 5 February 2007. An overall total of 11,456 representations have been received so far, including 1,222 representations received after the 5 February deadline. From the total number of representations received, 59 were recorded in support and 11,397 against the development."

Many thanks for signing the petition against the massive windfarm developments intended for the Isle of Lewis, featured on the Gopetition website: http://www.gopetition.com/online/7650.html

I am the author of the petition which I decided to set up after my trip to the Western Isles in July 2005 in support of the overwhelming majority of the islanders who oppose their island being turned into a massive wind factory. The petition has recently been updated to include the latest development on the Lewis Wind Farm proposal and can be seen on the above Gopetition website.

In view of the latest development, I have decided to contact petition signatories to forward on to you the latest bulletin from the group Moorland without Turbines (MWT) based on Lewis and also to forward an e-mail with attachments which I received from Lewis for those who would like to make objections to the Scottish Executive. Details are in the attachments.

Letters written to the press would also help to raise awareness of the plight facing Lewis and the Western Isles.

Should the matter go to Public Inquiry a fund will be set up to assist with legal costs and a Paypal account will be set up for foreign contributions. In the meantime, any financial contributions can be made to their account as advertised on their website www.mwtlewis.org.uk The islanders are currently financing advertising costs, poster printing and other administrative costs out of their own pockets.

I apologize for any infringement on your privacy by contacting you but perhaps if we all helped - as we are able to - we could make a difference in the lives of the people of Lewis trying to save their island.

If you have any other ideas on how to support the people of Lewis please feel free to contact me or MWT directly.

Many thanks and kind regards.

P.S. The Stornoway Gazette poll mentioned in the attached bulletin has now closed. Poll believed to be 91 per cent against!
